Samsung XHB series for outdoor LED displays

News Source:

When it comes to large-scale LED displays — which can be used in stadiums, shopping districts, public squares and beyond for advertising, drawing customers’ attention and communicating announcements or updates — there’s an inevitable tension between cost, quality and customization. Quite often you’re invited to pick two of these things on the basis the third might naturally follow. But Samsung hasn’t become the most innovative and trusted name in LED displays simply by following the rules.

The commitment by Samsung to LED technology is backed by a well-funded research, development and quality assurance program. It’s this determination to constantly push the limits of technology that has led to the new XHB series for outdoor LED displays.

The XHB line has been designed with significant input from the market. Based on feedback from customers, designers, architects and consultants, the upgraded units address previously unmet needs.

Available in a variety of pixel pitches (6mm to 20.99mm), the XHB series combines stunning picture quality, reliability and customization in the way you’ve come to expect from Samsung. It’s also more affordable than you might think. As a leading LED manufacturer with global scale, Samsung can source components at a lower cost and reduce the price for consumers. What was once only possible for those willing to pay a premium is now available to everyone.

Exceptional quality is non-negotiable

Because audiences today demand ultra-high-definition (UHD) video content, exceptional picture quality is a must. The highest refresh rates in the industry, tight pixel pitch options, and superior brightness and contrast — especially in direct sunlight — are fundamental to the XHB series design.

With two diode options, the XHB series offers a solution to meet a wide range of needs. For pro sports and spectaculars, the Cree diode remains the gold standard. For smaller-scale and digital out-of-home (DOOH) applications, the Samsung premium diode delivers an elite-level experience.

Custom design without breaking the bank

The more bespoke a project, the higher the cost and the greater the risk of something going wrong. Customization generally undermines a streamlined and standardized approach — ordinarily where manufacturers realize efficiencies and control quality. With the XHB series, Samsung found the sweet spot among these opposing elements.

The design can be fully customized at any pixel pitch, with tighter radiuses across pitch options. These features, combined with standardized cabinets, allow for customization where necessary and standardization where possible — helping reduce cost and improve reliability. It’s pragmatism at its most effective.

What’s more, because of the flexibility with XHB displays, there’s no need to re-engineer the entire project if, in the middle of planning, pitch specs change (such as from 10mm to 8mm).

Downtime is lost dollars

Time truly is money, and there is an undeniable negative impact when an LED display goes down. For DOOH, spectaculars and entertainment districts, the cost of downtime is easily measured by the advertising and sponsorship dollars lost.

For entertainment and entertainment districts, reliability is especially critical because so much of the display content is time-sensitive. Even with a rapid response to any problems, the event may be over in minutes or hours. There’s no redo for those lost opportunities.

For live events and sports, a full or partial outage impacts the audience’s experience as well as the sponsor or advertiser’s image. The big, bright, can’t-miss displays aren’t as impressive or selfie-worthy when certain panels are black — or, worse, the entire board is down.

Reliability at the core

Samsung understands that screen reliability in these industries is imperative. That’s why the XHB series was designed from the ground up to include full signal, power and control board redundancy as part of the standard design — not a pricey add-on like its competitors.

Setting a high bar for reliability is why Samsung enlisted a third party to conduct all-encompassing testing. The XHB series undergoes rigorous assessment not just of its individual components but of the entire system. This way, customers can be confident in the full system rather than just the parts.

The testing protocol also includes electromagnetic emissions testing, which is critical when these LEDs are deployed on billboards and digital signs. The XHB series is FCC Class A compliant, and both the individual parts and the full solution are tested to ensure the signals aren’t stacking up and exceeding emissions limits. This helps mitigate the risk of the board being shut down by the FCC.

Trust always matters

Cheap tech and fly-by-night manufacturers flood the industry only to disappear a few years later, along with their warranties and service agreements. But Samsung has been serving the LED industry across the globe for decades.

The Golden State Warriors’ Chase Center in San Francisco, the Baltimore Ravens’ M&T Bank Stadium, One Times Square and COEX Mall in Korea — these are among the high-profile names that trust Samsung with their business. The XHB line may be the newest innovation in outdoor LED from Samsung, but the foundation of quality and reliability remains the same as it ever was.
