LG Display recently announced in a press release that it had begun mass production of its latest OLED panel for gaming monitors. Specifically, this is a 27-inch OLED panel and the first of its kind to achieve a frame rate of 480 Hz, which is said to enable a response time of just 0.02 milliseconds.

LG has only been able to achieve such a high frame rate on a 32-inch diagonal thus far, such as the LG 32GS95UE, but the resolution had to be reduced to 1,920 x 1,080. The new panel, on the other hand, reaches the maximum frame rate at a resolution of 2,560 x 1,440, resulting in a pixel density of 110 PPI. The WRGB subpixel arrangement is said to display text more sharply than Samsung's QD OLED panels, while the Micro Lens Array (MLA) reportedly enables higher brightness and lower power consumption thanks to microlenses in front of the panel.

Prior to mass production of this panel, two gaming monitors based on this panel had already been announced: the Asus ROG Swift OLED PG27AQDP and the Acer Predator X27U F3. Asus specifies a peak HDR brightness of 1,300 nits, 99% coverage of the DCI-P3 color space and 135% sRGB coverage. The panel also supports variable frame rates in principle, with support for Nvidia G-Sync, AMD FreeSync and VESA Adaptive Sync, depending on the monitor in which the panel is installed. The panel is intended to enable designs that are almost frameless on all four sides.
