Ayshire Council in Northern UK Approves £4.25m LEDs Streetlight Upgrade

The Ayshire Council located in Scotland, UK has recently approved a streetlight retrofit plan budget of £4.25 million (US $7.20 million) to replace the 13,500 streetlights in North Ayshire to LED within two years, according to an Irvine Times report.

The council currently spends £870,000 on streetlights, and estimates costs will be on the rise in the future. Under UK’s mandatory cap on carbon emissions, the Carbon Reduction Commitment, the existing streetlights would add an additional £70,000 costs per year.

The new LED streetlights installation is expected to curt carbon dioxide emissions by 2,475 tonnes, reduce light pollution, and pay for itself within six years.
