Ceylon Electricity Board Cautions Users to Choose Energy Efficient Lights Carefully

State-owned power company Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) issued a notice asking consumers in Sri Lanka to choose LED bulbs and Compound Fluorescent Lamps wisely, according to a Sri Lanka Broadcast report.

Consumers should pay attention to whether CFL and LED products have the local star symbol label and the products efficiency, said Kamal Illeperuma, Chief Engineer at the Regional Lighitng Center of CEB. He also highlighted many consumers might buy low priced CFL and LED light bulbs that might not achieve the desired results in reducing electricity costs.

Illeperuma also pointed out selling substandard electric bulbs without the accredited brand name and star symbols is prohibited in Sri Lanka.
