Varjo, the world leader in military-grade virtual and mixed reality technology, together with REISER Simulation and Training GmbH (REISER), announced that the REISER H145 D3 Mixed Reality (MR) Helicopter Simulator has been pre-qualified by the German Federal Aviation Office (Luftfahrt-Bundesamt, LBA) under the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) Special Conditions framework.
This milestone marks a significant step forward in bringing immersive, high-fidelity pilot training to operators across Europe, building on the simulator’s earlier qualification by the FAA.
The achievement marks a significant step forward in bringing mixed reality technology into EASA-recognized training environments, further expanding the role of immersive solutions in certified aviation training.
The simulator features a full-scale haptic cockpit paired with two fully instrumented XR crew stations, enabling highly realistic multi-crew training. Pilots can rehearse Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Crew Resource Management (CRM), checklist flows, and mutual cross-checks in fully immersive environments.
“REISER’s XR Simulator is integrated with Varjo’s latest XR-4 Series headsets that are purpose-built for mission-critical training. Together, we are enabling pilot training to take a fundamental leap toward virtual environments and are proud to work with REISER in driving the adoption of qualified, mixed reality-based Flight Simulation Training Devices (FSTDs),” said Valentin Storz, Chief Revenue Officer of Varjo.
“With this achievement, REISER once again sets a new industry benchmark. We are the first to unite MR with a fully haptic cockpit, and to do so within a system that can be seamlessly operated in our proven full-flight simulators using roll-on/roll-off cockpit technology. This innovation underlines our mission to make the power of perception come alive in every training environment,” said Martin Keil, REISER CTO.
The H145 D3 XR simulator now holds Flight Training Device Level 3 (FTD-3) pre-qualification privileges. Full certification will follow completion of the required Flight Simulation Training Device Operator (FSTDO) qualification process and is expected in early 2026.
