[News] Meta’s Dual-Brand Smart Glasses: Oakley for Performance, Ray-Ban Goes High-End

News Source:

Meta is expanding its smart glasses lineup with fresh offerings under both the Oakley and Ray-Ban brands—two labels united under Luxottica. While Ray-Ban’s models have already proven popular for their blend of style and subtle tech, Meta is gearing up to target a different audience with its upcoming Oakley smart glasses.

Ray-Ban’s Diverse Styles
Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses currently come in several styles. The Wayfarer channels a timeless, classic vibe, the Headliner is crafted for those who want a little bit of everything by blending traditional design with futuristic tech; and the Skylar is specifically designed to fit smaller faces, offering a sleek, modern twist. These models feel nearly identical to traditional Ray-Bans while offering hands-free photo and video capture and voice-activated AI assistance.

Oakley’s Athletic Focus
The new Oakley smart glasses, set to debut as soon as later this year, draw inspiration from Oakley’s renowned Sphaera series. Designed with athletes and fitness enthusiasts in mind, these glasses feature a reconfigured camera mounted at the center of the frame. This adjustment isn’t merely cosmetic; it’s intended to improve balance and tracking accuracy during high-intensity activities like cycling or running.

Introducing Hypernova: The Premium Upgrade
Adding another layer to Meta’s strategy is the development of a premium Ray-Ban model, internally codenamed “Hypernova.” Unlike the current Ray-Ban Meta glasses that rely solely on auditory notifications, Hypernova will feature a display on the bottom of the right lens, where information is directly projected into the wearer’s field of view, nudging the device closer to being a lightweight, wearable computer that might one day rival smartphones. While standard Ray-Ban Meta glasses are priced at around $299, early estimates suggest that Hypernova—which could be released as early as 2H25—could fetch nearly $1,000 due to its advanced features.

As competition intensifies in the smart glasses sector, Meta’s integrated strategy across Oakley and Ray-Ban could well set a new standard for future wearables.
