In recent years, e-paper products have been increasingly adopted in education, reading, office, and commercial display applications. As the market demands lighter, thinner designs with narrower bezels and wider color gamuts, “paper-like displays” are evolving beyond single-function use toward scenario-based and intelligent applications, raising higher requirements for core component technologies.
At Touch Taiwan 2025, Refond was invited to participate in the 2025 E-Paper Industry Ecosystem Development Forum. At the interactive salons, Refond delivered two key presentations shared innovative ideas in front lighting technology for e-paper and sparked lively discussion among attendees.

Leading Innovation in Light Source Technology
Currently, mainstream products like e-readers and some digital photo frames generally adopt a front-lighting design. To improve screen readability, reduce energy consumption, and extend device lifespan, LED chips—one of the core components—have become key to technological breakthroughs.

As a globally recognized innovative technology company focused on LED light sources and product solutions, Refond, keenly attuned to these market and technology trends, has independently developed a range of LED chip solutions with features such as wide color gamut, low blue light for eye protection, ultra-thin design, and low power consumption, injecting fresh momentum into the upgrading of the e-paper industry.

Wide Color Gamut LED Development
Refond applies innovative KSF phosphor technology to precisely optimize the ratio of red and green phosphors, significantly expanding the color gamut and bringing light quality closer to natural light. This results in more detailed image rendering. Refond's direct-emitting LEDs can achieve a color gamut of up to 102%, while edge-emitting LEDs reach up to 95%.

In practical applications, e-paper front-light designs equipped with Refond’s LEDs demonstrate remarkable advantages. Compared to traditional solutions, the brightness increases by over 20% and color values by over 25%, significantly enhancing color saturation and delivering clearer and more refined display effects in digital photo frames.

Ultra-Thin LED Solutions
For lightweight and slim designs, Refond's ultra-thin LED solutions use smaller LEDs paired with thinner light guide plates, allowing a thinner overall module without sacrificing brightness. This enables narrow bezel designs and perfectly blends thin form factors with high performance.

Low Power Consumption Chip Solutions
Refond's low-power LED solutions also stand out. They reduce energy consumption by 10% compared to traditional LEDs while maintaining the same brightness output. This aligns with the concept of environmental sustainability and supports green development goals.

Low Blue Light LED Solutions
In educational products, the harmful effects of blue light have long been a concern. Refond's low-blue-light LED solution addresses this at the source by reducing blue light content to only 30%—a 50% decrease compared to conventional chips—offering users a more comfortable and eye-friendly viewing experience.

Pushing the Boundaries of Application Innovation
Backed by strong expertise in optical R&D, Refond Optoelectronics has built a vertically integrated product system that spans points (LED chips), lines (LB light bars), planes (Mini LED panels), and volumes (Mini displays), allowing for faster and more effective technological innovation.

In intelligent manufacturing, Refond has established a fully automated, complete, and efficient production system from R&D to large-scale manufacturing. The company also has in-house capabilities for producing LEDs, light bars, and select sensors, which improves yield rates and production efficiency while ensuring stable bonding quality. It supports full-lamination e-paper modules from 1 to 18 inches, meeting diverse market needs. Refond is also actively preparing for the production of mid-to-large-sized products to further expand market share and competitiveness.

Notably, since obtaining Prism technology licensing last year, Refond has completed verification of its production lines and process materials and successfully delivered multiple sample products.

Looking ahead, Refond will continue to focus on automotive, cultural tourism, and home decor sectors, driving large-scale application and breakthroughs in e-paper touch bonding technology. With innovative solutions, Refond aims to accelerate the deployment of cutting-edge use cases and provide competitive e-paper product solutions to the global display industry—contributing to the industry's sustainable development.
