According to Sina VR, industry sources state that Apple is developing a slimmer, lighter headset called the Vision Air, positioned as a more compact version of the original Vision Pro. The report also notes that a new midnight blue color option may be introduced.
As highlighted by the report, Apple reportedly plans to replace traditional aluminum with titanium for the battery casing and specific structural components to make the device less bulky. Although titanium has a higher density than aluminum, it offers unique advantages for lightweight design, the report adds.
The report mentions that titanium can meet strength requirements with thinner material under the same load, potentially reducing structural weight. In addition, titanium’s corrosion resistance can help eliminate the need for additional protective layers, contributing to a thinner design.
Finally, titanium’s superior high-temperature performance means the device won’t require bulky insulation measures, directly reducing the overall weight of the thermal management system, as the report notes.
Beyond the titanium material, the report points out that this new headset may include other hardware restructurings, including a new interface design similar to the Lightning connector style, with pin count reduced from 12 to 8.
Apple is reportedly preparing to launch a new Vision Pro with an upgraded M5 chip in the second half of this year. At the same time, the company is said to be developing a more affordable model—possibly the Vision Air, according to the report.
Meanwhile, as noted by The Mac Observer, supply chain sources indicate that Apple is adjusting component orders for this lighter, cheaper headset, which is expected to debut in late 2025 or early 2026.
