[News] Stellantis Group chooses Sony Crystal LED technology for its iconic space

News Source:

Stellantis, a major player in the automotive industry with 14 car brands, wanted to replace the ageing installation in its iconic Parisian "Dome" room, dedicated to its Design Europe workshops, internal presentations by brand managers and media events.

The Stellantis group has chosen a Sony Crystal LED BH-series display to refresh this iconic room. The new premium video wall, a high-performance screen 16 metres long and 3 metres high, replaces a video projection solution that had been in place for 10 years. It now represents the new standard in visual quality.

An immersive experience for brands
Used for presentations by the CEOs of the Group's various brands as well as for vehicle launches, the 'Dome' had to reflect the excellence of the automotive group. The aim was to replace an ageing video projection solution with an ultra-high-performance device capable of accurately reproducing the tiniest details of the models on display - colours, textures, finishes - while creating an immediate 'wow' effect.

It was an ambitious installation, subject to major technical constraints - notably high ambient light levels, the need for impeccable colourimetry, and the need for absolute reliability to create a spectacular visual experience.

The Sony solution
After a public invitation to tender and a comparison between three suppliers, Sony came out on top with its Crystal LED BH15D technology, designed for very demanding environments. The high level of brightness (1,700 cd/m²) of the BH15D Crystal LED screen ensures perfect visibility, even in an environment bathed in natural light such as that of the Dome. Its anti-reflective coating eliminates any visual distraction, while enhancing the depth of blacks and the immersive effect.

For Stellantis, colour accuracy was essential to respect the visual identity of the car brands presented. Thanks to its X1™ for Crystal LED picture processor and its 22-bit Super Bit Mapping technology, the BH series offers ultra-faithful rendering, guaranteeing accurate presentation of finishes, body colours and textures.

The exceptional size of the screen also enables teams to project full-size 3D representations of the vehicles, comparing different models, configurations or finishes, to enhance the immersive experience of the presentations.

"The sharpness of the images, the depth of the blacks and the fidelity of the colours are fantastic. The rendering is impressively realistic, whether for videos, 3D renderings or model comparisons," says Phillipe Deren, Head of Digital Design Development at Stellantis.

Over and above the technological performance and reliability of the solution, the unfailing support provided by Sony and its integrator partner SCC, which ensured high-quality monitoring from installation through to final adjustments, was a significant plus in terms of the group's overall satisfaction.

"As the project integrator, we managed the entire deployment of Sony's Crystal LED display in the Dome room, on a suspended structure designed by our partner. This project was carried out in a particularly demanding time, in the middle of August 2024, when our teams were also mobilised for the Paris Olympic Games. Despite the logistical and technical constraints, we were able to guarantee smooth, precise execution in line with Stellantis' high expectations. This type of deployment is a perfect illustration of SCC France's ability to deliver mission-critical projects in collaboration with trusted technology partners such as Sony". - Laurent Benedetti, Director of the Audiovisual Department at SCC France

"Supporting an international group like Stellantis in such a strategic and demanding project was a real source of pride for our teams. This partnership is a perfect illustration of our ability to offer cutting-edge technological solutions, while remaining attentive to the specific needs of our customers. The result achieved in the 'Dome' room is a testament to Sony's commitment to delivering uncompromising visual experiences, even in the most complex environments," says Jérémie Delvallée, Pre-Sales Engineer and Product Specialist at Sony.
