[News] MetaOptics Deploys Direct Laser Writer in Taiwan to Power Prototyping and Production

News Source:

MetaOptics Ltd, a leading-edge semiconductor optics company, has deployed its Direct Laser Writer system at Pin-Jye Nano Technologies Co., Ltd. in Taoyuan, Taiwan. The installation brings metalens prototyping and fabrication closer to the regionʼs semiconductor supply chain and marks an important step in MetaOpticsʼ global expansion.

By building up local development capabilities, MetaOptics will help partners iterate faster and move from concept to product more efficiently. The Taoyuan site will also serve as a launchpad for scaling up production and collaboration. Additional Direct Laser Writers and automatic testers are planned to expand capacity and meet growing demand for metalenses. As part of these efforts, MetaOptics is developing metalens solutions for Co-Packaged Optics (CPO), with demonstrated nanofabrication capability down to 150nm or lesser. CPO has emerged as a powerful technology, to revolutionize AI infrastructure by shifting from copper to light-based data transmission. MetaOptics' metalens arrays make optical receivers and transceivers smaller than traditional micro-optics, enabling more compact and scalable systems.

"Taiwan sits at the heart of the semiconductor world. This deployment brings us closer to our partners and positions us to support them with faster turnaround, better integration, and a path to scale," said Mark Thng, Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of MetaOptics Ltd.

Beyond expanding metalens production capacity in Taiwan, MetaOptics is also exploring a presence in the United States to better serve key customers. To support this growth, MetaOptics has secured long lead components to enable faster replication of its Direct Laser Writers. MetaOptics' Direct Laser Writer achieves a minimum line width of 90nm, a level of precision unmatched by competing systems.

Looking ahead, in collaboration with major semiconductor OEMs, MetaOptics aims to further advance its Direct Laser Writer technology to handle 12-inch formats with simultaneous multi-lens writing. This maskless process, when combined with multi-lens writing, is expected to dramatically increase throughput and unlock new opportunities for scaling.

These efforts are part of MetaOpticsʼ vision to make metalens technologies more accessible by simplifying how metalenses are designed, tested, and brought into the real world. With the delivery of the Direct Laser Writer, the Company expects its revenue in FY2025 to be materially higher than in FY2024.
