VIJO (Suzhou) Optoelectronics Technology (VIJO), a Micro LED optical chip manufacturer, has completed a new financing round of nearly 100 million RMB, according to an official statement on the company’s WeChat account on Monday.
The investment round was backed by Xinhe Capital, the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area Seed Investment Fund, and Appotronics, a Shanghai-listed semiconductor laser technology company, alongside Peng Qian, chairman of Wuhan Jingce Electronic Group, a Shenzhen-listed semiconductor inspection equipment supplier. Existing shareholders, including Fibonacci VC, Lanchi Ventures, and iFLYTEK Ventures, also participated in the round.
VIJO focuses on Micro LED technology, which is primarily utilized in augmented reality (AR) micro-displays. The company has adopted an “epitaxy plus chip” vertical integration strategy to address the “size effect” challenge in the industry, particularly concerning the efficiency drop in red light epitaxy during chip miniaturization. Over the past two years, VIJO has transitioned from research and development to mass production, successfully entering the supply chains of various clients.
The company’s proprietary epitaxy production line is nearing operational status. Moving forward, VIJO plans to extend its optical chip applications beyond AR displays into visible light communication, leveraging the high-speed modulation and low-power characteristics of Micro LEDs.
