Lighting Fair 2009 hold a seminar titled "LED and organic EL pave the road to the future of illumination". Japanese LED giant Nichia and Semi-Photonics Co., Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of SemiLEDs Corporation USA have settled the patent case (Case No. Hei 19 (wa) 10399) before the Osaka District Court on March 3, 2009. SemiLEDs spokesmen were unable to make any comment due to the legal constraints of the settlement.

Greenlight Initiative has announced one of the first commercially successful deployments of an LED-based lighting installation for large exterior marker-sign applications. It’s reported that Taiwan LED wafer and chip manufacturer Formosa Epitaxy plans to establish a big-sized semiconductor lighting plant in Rushan, Shandong, east China. Chien Fen-ren, chairman of Formosa Epitaxy, disclosed that the Taiwan company is projected to invest USD 150 million in the coming firm, which will be mainly engaged in the R&D, manufacture, and sales of LED epitaxial wafers, chips, and related innovative electrics products. By now, the coming firm has been registered.

Recently, Taiwan LED maker Everlight Electronics Co., Ltd. claimed that it won orders for backlight unit (BLU)-use LEDs from a big international notebook PC brand. The company expects its revenue climb by 20% to 30% this year. Everlight confirmed that its LEDs for monitor and LCD TV BLUs are undergoing certification, so its shipments of LEDs for large-sized LED panels would enjoy clear growth.

It’s reported that LED systems maker Terralux has brought in an undisclosed first round of financing, but is already looking to raise more. Based in Boulder, Colo., Terralux has been operating off of funds provided by its founder, a business model that it has long since outgrown.

It’s reported that Future Lighting Solutions has provided key technical design assistance for new energy-saving LED light fixtures unveiled last month on the Hong Kong MTR (Mass Transit Railway). The new fixtures, each comprised of 32 high-powered LEDs, are designed to reduce energy consumption on the city’s trains, extend bulb life to lower replacement costs, and provide more natural lighting than conventional fluorescent tubing for commuter comfort.

Now their wireless lighting-control system flickered to life. A split second after a technician inside Ruud Lighting's warehouse typed a command into his laptop, streetlights along 92nd St. outside blinked off, then back on.

China's major home appliance maker Konka Group Co. Ltd, recently stated construction of a LED backlight factory in east China's Jiangsu Province. The factory based in Kunshan City, with a total investment of 886 million yuan and covering an area of 33 hectares, is expected to produce 7.2 million Liquid Crystal Modules (LCM) and 3.6 million televisions with eight LCM production lines.
