Samsung and LG intend to offer a wider range of LED TVs

Samsung and LG intend to offer a wider range of LED TVs this year.

According to Rohit Pandit, business head for home entertainment at LG Electronics in India, LG new range of TVs is now weighted 50-50 between LED and LCD units.

Samsung India deputy managing director Ravinder Zutshi  also forecasts sales of 200,000-300,000 LED sets this year, compared to 40,000 in 2009.

Compared with LCD counterparts, LED sets tend to be more expensive, however, they also offer better performance in terms of both quality and sustainability. As Mr Zutshi said, "LEDs are much better in terms of picture quality, style, display and long-term reliability."

Last month, US company ClearLite expressed confidence that LEDs are to become increasingly common in lighting applications, describing them as the "future of commercial lighting."
