Lextar estimates LED TV will increase at the beginning of 2011

A president of Lextar Electronics estimated, usually, market demand growth will increase significantly when market share reaches 15-20%, and LED-backlit TV market share will reach around 20% in 2010.

In 2011, New product would be designed LED-backlit. And LED-backlit product ASPs would drop by 11-15% due to dropping demand in 4Q10. LED backlighting designs for LCD monitors and TVs would focus on reducing overall costs, and the tight LED and component supply was expected to ease in 2011 due to component suppliers' efforts to expand capacity and new backlight unit (BLU) designs.

In 1Q10, a 32-inch mode LED TV BLUs required about 144LEDs and 37-inch needed about 192LEDs, 42-inch needed about 208 LEDS, 46-inch needed about 240 LEDS, and 55-inch needed about 288 LEDS. But in the 1Q11, the LED usage will reduce to 100, 120, 144, 172 and 200 units, respectively. Evenly, some suppliers using LEDs down to 80 units for 32-inch models, 100 units for 37-inch models and 120 units for 42-inch models.

Involving to whether the price for LED TV decrease, the president said the price would be decided to market demand.
