Indian Monuments to Take a LED Lighting Pilot Project

Reportedly, India tourism department will light up the Panaji church and the picturesque Penha de França church at Britona with Phillips Lighting’s LED lighting as a pilot project from December 23 to January 2.

According to Tourism director Swapnil Naik ,"Currently, churches, temples and other monuments in Goa are lit up using sodium vapour technology. It has its disadvantages: It is tough to get spares for them as they are outdated. They consume a lot of electricity, besides they only display a single colour. Sodium vapour lamps also generate tremendous heat, which could be damaging to heritage buildings."

As a result, the goal of the pilot project is to replace the lighting technology currently used for many religious and heritage monuments in Goa. And it’s said that Phillips Lighting recently approached the tourism department to undertake the project.
