Samsung Electronics Showcased New Edge-type LED-backlit LCD Panel at CES Press Conference

Lately, Samsung Electronics has showcased a new model of its edge-type LED-backlit LCD panel at CES Unveiled, a press conference prior to the 2011 International CES.

According to a Samsung staffer, different with the case where LED backlight units are set on all the four sides ,they placed backlight units on the right and left sides of the panel so that the power consumption of the panel can be reduced.
 
Eight blocks of LEDs are placed on each side. By using a local-dimming function, the brightness of each block can be independently controlled, the staffer said.

The size, pixel count and luminance of the panel are 55 inches, 1,920 x 1,080 and 450cd/m2, respectively. Its contrast ratio is 100,000:1, and its frame frequency is 240Hz. It has a 72% color gamut on NTSC standards and can display 3D images.The dimensions of the panel are 1247.6 (W) x 719.9 (L) x 10.8mm (D). Its weight is 14.5kg.

However, Samsung Electronics did not reveal the release date or the price of the panel. But the company disclosed it will be commercialized soon.
