It’s announced that Panasonic has made a decision to sell 9 million LED light bulbs in Japan next fiscal year, up from 4.4 million units targeted for the year ending March 31.

According to Panasonic, the overall domestic market for LED lights will jump from 11 million units to 18 million next fiscal year and it targets to grab half of the domestic market.

The company plans to begin offering on March 18 LED bulbs capable of shedding light over a wide, 300-degree swath, putting them on par with incandescent lamps.

It also widened the angle of illumination from 120 degrees for existing products which are expected to sell for about 3,500 yen each.

In the meantime, Panasonic will begin offering its first LED ceiling lights, priced at between 50,000 yen and 75,000 yen. It aims to sell 60,000 of these ceiling lamps in fiscal 2011.
