City of Edmonton’s LED Retrofit to Energy Conservation

City of Edmonton has made a LED retrofit, as one of Canada’s largest LED replacement programs.

There are 4,500 modern lights will be installed this year after two years of tests. The move is expected to save at least $100,000 annually in electricity. The new fixtures will shine white rather than orange and focus all the light down to roads and sidewalks, unlike the old-style domes that allow it to scatter.

LED equipment is being introduced as part of reconstruction in Capilano and West Jasper Place that finishes next year, along with 10 other neighbourhoods.

In the future, the city plans to eventually upgrade all of Edmonton’s 98,000 street lights.
