ECO-FRIENDLY, SUSTAINABLE LIGHTING FOR THE WORLD

Website: www.ecolight-tech.com
Location: The Queen Sirikit National Convention Center, Bangkok, Thailand

With advancements in lighting technology, new inventions have penetrated workplaces, households, automobiles and even commercial buildings. The energy saver lights, also known as eco-friendly lights, lessen greenhouse gas emissions in the environment and cut down consumers' monthly electricity consumption, as these products use less energy. The market to day has several types of energy saver lights such as CFLs (Compact Fluorescent Lamps) and LED lights, among others.

Available in an array of sizies, wattages, bases and color temperatures, energy saver light have a number of advantages compared to traditional lighting technologies. Some of them are highly energy-efficient, durable, consume less power, last longer, and are safer to use because they do not use any filament to produce light.

Worldwide trends and studies reveal that the global lighting market will have revenues of approximately USD150 billion by 2020. Grown of the global population and urbanization, along with the important issue of climate change, are responding to these issues with environment-friendly regulations that promote energy efficiency, and the lighting industry is pursuing the introduction and enhancement of more energy-effcient lighting products and technolgies.

THAILAND's CRUSADE FOR ENERGY EFFICIENCY
The Thai government, along with other countries, is crusading for greener lighting technologies. According to the “20-Year Energy Efficiency Development Plan (2011-2030),” a report released by Thailand's Ministry of Energy, the Thai government plans to reduce energy intensity by 25% in 2030, compared with that in 2005, or equivalent to reduction of final energy consumption by 20% in 2030. This will result in cumulative energy savings at an average of 14,500 ktoe/year, which is worth THB272 billion per year, and cumulative CO2 emission reductions at an average of 49 million tons/year.

Measures that bring about market transformation and energy consumers' behavioral change are in place such as enforcing energy efficiency labeling for equipments, appliances, buildings and vehicles so as to provide options for consumers.

SPOTLIGHT ON LEDs
The introduction of green lighting technologies, headed by Light-Emitting Diodes (LED) has started transforming the lighting industry. Studies reveal that LED's Market share is likely to accelerate over the next decade, with revenue growth of 30% per annum. Figures from different studies suggest that global revenues from the LED lighting market will be almost USD90 billion by 2020, close to 60% of the overall lighting market.

Asia, led by China, is strengthening its position in the LED market. China's general lighting market will be USD 17.5 billion by 2016(41% of Asia's and 17% of the global market), and its LED general lighting market will be USD 14.5 billion by 2020 (42% of Asia's and 20% of the global revenues).

The Electricity Generating authority of Thailand (EGAT) revealed that Thailand's overall lighting market in 2011 was worth THB7 billion, with 4% growth from 2010. LED lighting has a 12% market share, which is expected to increase to 45-50% by 2015 because of several government policies that promote the use of green lighting technology.
