An Australian company, IC12, is meeting photographic and digital filmmaking industries demands with the release of a portable and interlocking LED flash and light source - The LED Light Cube - to be crowdfunded on Indiegogo from Tuesday 13th August (Australian time) to the cry of 'Become a Cubist!'.
The LED Light Cube was borne out of a desire to make the biggest difference in the photographic industries with the smallest change, according to Managing Director of IC12, Nathan Oxley. "From our work with photographic awards and competitions, we heard time and time again about the frustrations of photographers - the cycle time required between flashes which meant often missing unrepeatable action, the lack of portability of lights, the insufficiencies of batteries,” said Oxley. We thought 'how can we free up photographers to just shoot and capture the moment?' That's The LED Light Cube."
The main features of The LED Light Cube are: Continuous high speed flashing at full power even at bursts of 15 frames per second; adjustable flash speed from one eight-thousands (1/8000) of a second to 30 seconds; ultra high performance, internal lithium ion polymer battery; interlocking capability for building light banks with extra units; and all-in-one flash and video lighting for immediate swapping from stills to motion picture.
Even before its initial production run, IC12 has decided to premiere The LED Light Cube on the Indigogo.com crowdfunding website so to open it up to those keen to be a part of the 'movement' right from the beginning and enjoy a fundamental role in bringing this illuminating device to a greater audience.
"People, especially first-responders, aren't satisfied with just buying a product anymore," explained Nathan Oxley. "It's about having ownership over a particular technology and knowing you had the foresight to jump on the bandwagon from the beginning."
The LED Light Cube Indiegogo campaign is taking place live from Tuesday 13th August to Thursday 12th September and can be viewed at http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/led-light-cube. The campaign goal of US$60,000 will help see The LED Light Cube develop from working prototype into its first production run, with the first of these units scheduled for delivery by the end of November 2013. The RRP costs US$695 single unit, RRP US$2400 four-unit kit and accessories available are sold separately.
