Proportion of Direct-Lit TVs with Flip-chips to Increase

Morgan Stanley’s recent report shows that the use of flip-chips in direct-lit TVs has increased, according to a report by Apple Daily. This will give a boost to LED chip and package manufacturers this year, as well as contributions from the rise in average price for TV backlighting. The firm is optimistic that Epistar and Everlight will benefit and has boosted Epistar's ratings and maintained Everlight's ratings.

Morgan Stanley estimates that the ratio for direct-type LED TV and edge-type LED TV will be 70% to 30% this year compared to last year's 50% to 50% for TV backlight designs. Use of flip-chips can improve the thickness of the backlight and reduce the cost by 15-20 percent. It is estimated that 10% of the direct-lit TVs this year will use flip-chips.
