According to a recent top-hundred ranking list of domestic patent application in 2013 by Intellectual Property Office (IPO) of the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), Lextar Electronics Corp. remained in the first place in LED industry in Taiwan,. In the ranking, Lextar was also second to none in number of granted patents and invention patent applications. This was the third consecutive year that Lextar topped in patent application in Taiwan LED industry, revealing its effectiveness in technology and patent deployment.
Lextar ranked first once more against industrial peers with most applications, most granted patents and high relation to invention. Total 208 applications were forwarded to the office last year, of which more than 85% involved invention, among which 177 invention applications marked a significant milestone in both quality and quantity.
“In addition to Taiwan patents, we are eager to apply for international patents as well. Lextar currently has more than 1700* patents across the world,”said Allen Huang, president of Lextar. “The number continues to grow as three international applications were filed on average by each R&D engineer last year.” As the only vertically-integrated LED company in Taiwan, Lextar held patents that widely covered epitaxial wafers, chip, packaging and lighting application, involving thermal, electrical, mechanical designs and photoelectrical optimization, across fields of manufacturing process and control systems.
Various incentives and supporting systems are imposed as measures to boost creativities and ideas. In line with an internal IP guideline, regular IP and innovation training programs are necessary to sustain growth into next year. In 2013, outstanding results spread widely from upstream epitaxial wafer and chip then down to backlighting and lighting products. Several new products and new technologies were unveiled last year, such as plug-in COB (chip on board), ultra high efficiency tube technology, dual emitting LED panel light, high-voltage blue chip packaging, flip-chip and whit chip packaging…etc. Apart from in-house research and development, Lextar also works in close collaboration with industries, government and research academies to encourage cross-field benefits and talent development.
