FOREPI Chairman Speaks Out on Flip-chip Mobile Applications

Flip-chips various features are now also being valued in the mobile application market, said FOREPI Chairman Chien Fen-ren during Leadray Energy’s Taipei office opening ceremony on March 17, 2014.

The flip-chip’s features of good heat dissipation gives it better operating efficiency, improved lifetime, and higher reliability, explained Chien. These features make the products ideal for flash applications, and can prolong the product lifetimes as it copes better with sudden power surges. “In flash lights there is usually a sudden power surge, when the light flashes,” said Chien. In comparison, average LEDs are typically more sensitive to power drive changes.

Korean mobile manufacturers including LG and Samsung have already introduced flip-chip products into new mobile flash, but Chinese mobile manufacturers including Huawei have yet to adopt this new technology, pointed out Chien. The chairman also projected adoption of flip-chip products in mobile phones will increase in the near future as costs continue to drop.

FOREPI will be displaying flip-chip products and High Voltage (HV) LED chips during the upcoming Taiwan International Lighting Show (TILS 2014), which will run from March 20-23, 2014 at TWTC Nangang Exhibition Hall in Taipei, Taiwan.
