Shift from Incandescent to LED Pushed Philips Canlyte Out of Business

Philips Canlyte announced it will close its doors after 27 years, leaving around 190 workers without jobs.

Canadian division of Philips Electronics, Canlyte’s light fixture business was hit hard when the Canadian government banned incandescent bulbs in January of this year. As more and more businesses and industries turn to LED lighting, Canlyte was forced to phase out its incandescent production line and ultimately close the factory.

Employees are receiving details of their termination arrangements, said company spokesman Santina Giuliano.
