Bangkok Int’l Airport to Receive LED Upgrade

Bangkok International Airport in Thailand will be cutting energy consumption with a LED upgrade in the next six months, according to a report by Pattaya Mail.

Under an agreement between Provincial Electric Authority (PEA) and Airports of Thailand (AOT) about 150 million Thai baht (US$ 4.62 million) will be invested into the project to replace the current 70,000 light bulbs at the airport. The project is expected to take three years before reaching break-even point.

PEA governor Numchai Lorwattanatrakul is confident the airport can save up to 50 percent of power consumption through the joint project. The two agencies are still evaluating the methods of implementation investment project.

AOT Director Mekin Petplai pointed out if the project proves to be effective in lowering energy consumption, similar projects will be introduced to five other airports and divisions in Thailand.
