Taiwanese sapphire manufacturers Rigidtech Microelectronics (Rigidtech) and Aceplux Optotech have seen revenue more than double during May and June 2014, according to a CNYes.com report. The two companies benefited from soaring LED lighting demands that have led to rising Patterned Sapphire Substrate (PSS) revenue.
Rigidtech revenue growth set new records for the last six consecutive months, having reached 118 percent YoY growth to NT $230 million (US $7.66 million) in May 2014. The company’s revenue was up 4.47 percent compared to the previous month. Rigidtech’s accumulated revenue for the first five months of 2014 soared 199.12 percent to NT $1.00 billion, far surpassing revenue for the first 10 months of 2013.
Aceplux Optotech revenue also soared 145 percent YoY last month to reach NT $ 50.52 million, or up 7.02 percent compared to April 2014. The company’s total revenue was up 234.08 percent in the first five months of 2014 to reach NT $221 million.
Due to PSS high luminous efficacy, 4-inch PSS prices dropped 40 percent compared to 2-inch PSS. Market orders are completely focused on 4-inch PSS products as a result, which has led to the industry’s peak season.
As PSS gains market popularity, Rigidtech and Aceplux Optotech have initiated expansion plans. Aceplux Optotech has completed expanding NT $1 billion financing in cash by selling 8,000 shares at NT $125 each. For further financing, the company also decided to issue 3,500 shares at NT $85 each to reach funding goal of NT $297 million.
Other Taiwanese sapphire manufacturers also saw growth in May 2014. Crystalwise revenue dropped Month-on-Month (MoM) by 3.4 percent to 224 million, but reached 10.9 percent Year-on-Year (YoY) growth. Procrystal Technology also saw growth of 62.3 YoY percent last month despite a monthly decline of two percent. Crystal Applied technology May 2014 revenue was up 1.8 percent, or 15 percent YoY. Although, Procrystal Technology revenues slid last month, growing client orders will ensure obvious revenue growth this month. In general, Taiwan’s sapphire industry’s 2Q14 performance has been similar to last year, having maintained exponential growth.
