Optimistic about Chinese Market Growth, Bridgelux Highlights COB Products at GILE 2014

Prestigious American Chip-on-Board (COB) manufacturer Bridgelux placed COB product series under the spotlight at Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition (GILE) 2014, that ran from June 9-12 in Guangzhou, China.

The company highlighted COB product series, including high flux density V series COB products that have a LES of 6/8/10 mm. The products with a luminous output below 1,000 lm are mainly applied in products for residential and commercial lighting applications including bulbs, spotlights, track lights, downlights and others. In addition, the product series added a new V15 product that features high luminous efficacy and long lifetimes. The product’s Color Rendering Index (CRI) can reach 97, and is mainly used to replace High-intensity-discharge (HID) lamps.

Moreover, as a member of The Connected Lighting Alliance, Bridgelux is promoting the development of wireless lighting solution standards. The company’s Vero series COB products are equipped with smart platforms, and smart wireless control technologies that have realized smart applications.

To meet the Chinese LED market’s high growing demands for high Cost/Price (C/P) ratio Surface Mounted Technology (SMT) and COB products, Bridgelux is expanding in the Chinese market and scaling up investments to expand production capacity, said David Connors, President of Marketing & Corporate Development at Bridgelux.

The company launched a joint venture “Brifond” with Chinese package manufacturer Refond to produce new LED package products utilizing low-mid power SMT technology. The company has also set up a new R&D center in Southern China’s Xiamen. The new center is developing products based on LED COB platform technologies developed in U.S. to develop products suitable for engineering trials and R&D in the Chinese market. The company also established an application R&D lab in Shanghai to provide clients with services including optics, mechanical and thermal tests as well as product certification services. As the company acquires larger market share from production expansions, the company’s revenue share from the Chinese market is estimated to soar.

Speaking about Bridgelux’s relations with local Chinese manufacturers, Conner noted the company was cooperating more with Chinese manufacturers rather than competing against them. Bridgelux is willing to share its experience and technology with high quality Chinese manufacturers. The company hopes by deepening partnerships with local manufacturers, it can understand Chinese market demands better and develop products with higher C/P.

Bridgelux's repertoire includes patent advantages. The company has relied on long term manufacturing and R&D experience to develop high quality and reliable products. Its experience in this field has further solidified competitive edge in the Chinese market. In the future, Bridgelux hopes to further localize products in the Chinese market, and provide advanced products with higher C/P ratios.
