Taiwanese mid-power LED chip manufacturer and packager Prolight Opto recently submitted listing applications to the Taiwan bourse. The application is expected to be completed by the end of this quarter. Top Taiwanese LED chip manufacturer Epistar is one of Prolight Opto’s investors.
Additionally, with more than 6 percent stake in Edison Opto, Epistar has expanded downstream export market, and continues to deploy its integration strategy.
Epistar spent NT $140 million to acquire 8 million Prolight Opto stocks in 2012, which amounts to 17.39 percent stake in the company. Prolight Opto specializes in mid to high-power LED package and manufacturing. The company products has very wide LED lighting applications including commercial, residential, outdoor, architectural, flash, automotive lightings and others.
According to Prolight Opto data, the company’s revenue reached NT $627 million (US $20.86 million) in 2013, and net profits were NT $32.92 million.
Epistar has more than 300 MOCVDs, and has long been an independent chip manufacturer. Yet, the company has continued to expand its downstream export markets through integration to sell and export its LED chips. Epistar’s downstream export markets include Everlight and lighting manufacturers it has invested in, such as Edison Opto and Prolight Opto. Epistar has even acted as a channel for Edison and Prolight partnership.
