Belkin International and TCP Partner Up to Add WeMo to LED Lighting Solutions

Belkin International®, a leading Internet of Things company, and Technical Consumer Products, Inc. (TCP), a leader in energy-efficient lighting innovations, today announced a relationship that will include WeMo® home automation support to the TCP lineup of LED lighting solutions. TCP and Belkin have come together to provide TCP light bulbs for home wireless networks where select retailers specify the Belkin WeMo ecosystem of home automation products.

The TCP light bulbs will connect to the WeMo ecosystem through the WeMo Link that will connect the TCP light bulbs to the home’s wireless network so they can work with other WeMo products, including the WeMo Light Switch, WeMo Insight Switch and NetCam HD+. Controlled with the WeMo app, the TCP LED bulbs will also work with IFTTT, which connects them to other web-based services and applications such as Facebook, SMS, Gmail, Calendar, etc. to perform custom tasks or trigger events. For example, consumers can program the bulbs to turn on when they get a text from their kids or even set up an IFTTT recipe to have the bulbs turn on when their favorite sport team wins their game.

“Teaming with a leader in lighting innovation such as TCP enables us to work on making lighting solutions a more approachable way for consumers to build a customized lighting environment within their home while they are there or away,” said Sunny Choi, vice president of corporate development at Belkin International. “This partnership helps expand our WeMo ecosystem to communicate easily with more smart devices being brought into the home every day.”

“We see smart lighting as an easy way for consumers to enter into the smart home space,” said Ellis Yan CEO, TCP. “Providing LED lighting that seamlessly integrates with the existing WeMo system is just another way to show our commitment to providing additional lighting solutions for consumers.”

The first WeMo-enabled TCP LED light bulbs are planned to be available early next year in the United States at leading retail and online retailers. The lineup of TCP bulbs that will be enabled by WeMo include A-Lamps and flood lights followed by other leading lighting solutions in the TCP family.
