Developed by the innovative engineering team at Lighting Science Group, the FreeLED™ high efficiency luminaire system has an integrated solar panel, battery pack, complete power management system and the self-learning capability to automatically adapt to its operating environment. It integrates high energy density, solar panels, compact battery cells, and a complete battery management system for quick and efficient installation. The system’s minimum 120 lm/W efficacy permits optimized energy utilization from the battery packs, which are designed for extensive operating time periods.
In the first planned roll out of FreeLED, Lighting Science Group is partnering with BHP Energy México in a large scale commercial installation of the solar roadway system in Mexico City. In its initial phase, 500 units of the FreeLED™ system will be installed. This project will bring clear, energy efficient LED light to the community, creating safer roadways and significantly lower lighting costs.
“The introduction of our FreeLED™ product represents a game-changing leap forward in solar and LED lighting technologies,” says Fred Maxik, Founder and Chief Technology Officer at Lighting Science. “Designed for simple installation in locations that often lack stable, extensive or affordable grid infrastructure, this product removes the constraints and incurred costs of utilizing grid power. The combination of next generation LED and solar initiatives promise to expand the market and bring light to places we could only dream of in the past.”
