Siemens Beats Philips in Bid for New Hampshire City Streetlight Project

News Source:

Aldermen of Manchester city in New Hampshire, U.S. have chosen Siemens traditional LED streetlights over Philips smart streetlights, reported local media the New Hampshire Union Leader.

The city is in the process of replacing 9,000 streetlights with LED bulbs. At a meeting on Tuesday, the city’s aldermen authorized a US$ 3.29 million bond to fund the lighting upgrade project.

A previous vote in favor of Philips smart LED streetlights was overturned yesterday, with eight out of 13 aldermen voting in favor of Siemens. Smart control lighting was rejected on the grounds that it would cost an additional $1.2 million to $1.4 million for the project.

Despite offering the smart streetlight upgrade for $3.25 million, Philips was ousted by rival Siemens, who requested $3.29 million for the installation of conventional LED streetlights.
