New York City Residents Complain of Overtly Bright LED Streetlights

News Source:

Bad LED streetlight installations can be a nusiance for local residents, as seen in the latest complaint from residents in Windsor Terrace, New York, U.S.

“It feels like I’m in a strip mall in outer space,” a New York Times report quoted a local resident Jolanta Benal saying.

Other residents have resorted to taping up dark heavy duty garbage bags to their windows to prevent the glaring light for seeping into their houses.

Much to light sensitive residents dismay, the city will be replacing all 250,000 sodium vapor streetlights within two years with LED lights.

The US$ 75 million lighting upgrade project is expected to help the city save $6 million in energy costs annually, and $8 million in maintenance costs.
