Illuminating the Resplendent Future of the Lighting Industry

Switching on to the global market, the 7th edition of HKTDC Hong Kong International Lighting Fair (Spring Edition) will be staged from 6 to 9 April 2015 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Around 1,100 exhibitors from 12 countries and regions are expected to join the fair.

The total value of Hong Kong’s export of lighting products (including lamps, lanterns and torches) exceeded US$1.3 billion in 2014. The most important export markets for Hong Kong are the United States, the Chinese mainland and Japan, together accounting for more than 50% of the total export value. The US registered encouraging growth performance with export value expanded by 25% year-on-year.

Catering to rising demand, World of Professional & Industrial Lighting will make its debut in the 2015 fair. It covers a broad range of products including stage lights, emergency and safety lights, architectural lighting, hospital lighting and other situation-specific applications, with LED options. Avenue of Chandeliers is still a favoured zone by buyers as they look for new and exciting interpretations as well as the classic chandeliers which never go out of fashion.

The fair offers global buyers a one-stop-shop for sourcing all finished products, parts and components. A great variety of merchandise will be showcased at different theme zones which enhance business opportunities for visitors and industry players, such as Hall of Aurora, LED & Green Lighting, Advertising Display Lighting and Avenue of Inspiration.

The fair also brings the exhibitors into contact with high calibre international buyers. “As the official worldwide licensee for Ford Lighting Solutions and Ford Home Solutions, we are pleased to have participated in the Lighting Fair (Spring Edition) for the first time to present the worldwide launch of Ford Lighting Solutions. We have been overwhelmed by enquires about potential distributorship of the Ford Lighting Solutions range. Western European countries have been leading the charge, but we have also received many enquiries from Southeast Asia and the MENA region. We cannot imagine a more appropriate opportunity to gain such exposure to prospective quality partners coming from all over the world,” said Frank Kauer, Managing Director, SKN Global Limited, Hong Kong, speaking of his experience from the 2014 event.

Robert Bonet Gallardo, Manager of LED Tech Iberica SL from Spain, remarked “Our company is engaged in selling all kinds of illumination products especially LED lighting via our franchises. It’s our first-time visit to the Lighting Fair (Spring Edition) 2014 and we aimed to look for new suppliers and different lighting products. We successfully identified four potential suppliers mainly from the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong for the supply of commercial lighting products. After the fair, we ordered US$60,000 worth of commercial lighting products. The business contacts that we established at the fair have been very useful as some of them can meet the needs of our large projects.”

Different seminars and buyer forums are organized to keep traders abreast of market information. Co-organised with the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, the Asian Lighting Forum will return in 2015. Experts from the industry and professional associations will gather to discuss the latest market intelligence, technological developments and regulatory updates in lighting.

In order to enhance the quality of Hong Kong lighting products and encourage new ideas, HKTDC has organised the 8th Hong Kong Lighting Design Competition as a concurrent event of the Lighting Fair (Spring Edition) 2015. The theme of this year’s competition is “enlightenment”, which aims to showcase the beauty of light. Through light, people see the hope which lies within and the many ways in which light enriches their lives. Contestant’s designs should portray the meaning of light.

In addition to HKTDC Hong Kong International Lighting Fair (Spring Edition), two concurrent fairs will also be held on 13 – 16 April 2015: HKTDC Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Spring Edition), Asia’s largest electronics fair, to showcase the latest consumer electronics; and HKTDC International ICT Expo, which offers the newest enterprise solutions, retail technologies, mobile applications, cloud computing solutions, telecommunications and network products for all businesses.
