Apple Embraces OLED Displays for Future iPads?

Two years ago, Apple CEO Tim Cook deemed OLED screens color saturation as “awful,” and lauded Retina display resolution and color performance as far superior, but this all might be changing for the company’s future iPads.

A Korean media report ETNews reported future iPads to be launched sometime in 2017 will be using OLED displays supplied by Japanese company JOLED. Based on the report, JOLED is building a 6-generation AMOLED fab with a monthly capacity of 60,000 substrates equivalent to 5.5 million 9.7-inch OLED panels per month, reported GforGames.com.

JOLED was founded last August by Innovation Network Corporation of Japan (INCJ), Japan Display, Sony and Panasonic.

Initially, JOLED announced a pilot project of producing 10 to 20 inch OLED displays by second half of 2017, but might be moving production ahead to second half of 2016 to meet Apple demands.
