Apple iPhones Rumored to Adopt Flexible OLED Displays in 2018

News Source:

Latest market rumors from Korea have noted South Korean display manufacturers are trying to persuade Apple to use flexible OLED screens in its future iPhones, reported Business Korea.

An industry source revealed Apple is “serious” about transferring its flagship product lineup to those equipped with OLED, since these displays can solve issues in color saturation, accuracy and brightness.

If Apple uses OLED smartphone screens in the future, it could create a huge market, since Apple has only be using the technology in Apple Watch so far. LG Display and Samsung have been Apple Watch OLED screen suppliers.

“It is very likely that the first flexible iPhone may be introduced in 2018, as Apple's top-tier display suppliers are working on it,” the source said.

Apple’s main OLED screen supplier, LG Display, has shifted one of its LCD lines in Gumi factory into an OLED line to expand its annual manufacturing capacity of OLED displays, and aims for mass-production in 2017.

Since Apple’s iPhones are released in accordance with the schedule of its display suppliers, consumers might be able to buy curved iPhones from 2018.
