Soaring LED lighting penetration rates, followed by the maturation of LED lighting technology. Although, market demands have soared, LED lighting demand growth in mature markets have eased, due to intense pricing competitions. As a result, LED manufacturers are turning their focus to emerging markets including the establishment of ASEAN Economic Community in Southeast Asia later this year, and China’s recent One Belt, One Road policies have driven large scale infrastructure investments. This has placed LED lighting market demands under the market lime light.
The Southeast Asian LED lighting market value reached US $1.12 million in 2014, according to LEDinside estimations. This year, the market is still likely to expand steadily because of rapid population growth, favorable government policies and an abundance of private-sector LED lighting projects. It is projected the LED lighting market value in the ASEAN region will increase 36% Year-on-Year (YoY) to US $1.5 billion in 2015.

Meanwhile, entrepreneurs from other countries including Taiwan, China, Japan and South Korea are seeing the light in Thailand as an economic, trade and transportation hub in Asian markets. They have increased their investments in the Thailand lighting industry since 2011, while targeting domestic markets, and the ASEAN region. LEDinside took the opportunity at an EcoLight Tech Asia 2015 event to visit several local manufacturers to better understand the local LED lighting market, including TP Halo and Eve Lighting.
