The Grand Bahama Power Company to Install 9,000 LED Lights to Local Streets

The Grand Bahama Power Company (GBPC) is recognized as a notorious money devouring monster to local people for a long time, according to Freeport News.

But the picture may change soon, shifting from its original negative reputation to a friendly one. The GBPC and the Grand Bahama Port Authority together are seeking to provide more reasonable pricing to consumers. Meanwhile, the GBPC announced that the company is undergoing streetlights upgrade, replacing more than 9,000 streetlights with LED ones.

There is fair reason for local citizens to welcome the switch. Pioneer’s Way is especially in need of quality streetlights since some of its section is poorly illuminated and may cause danger to road users, according to Freeport News.

At the same time, energy efficient LED streetlights are also beneficial to both GBPC and local people.

The company also released a statement about the low energy consumption of LED streetlights. The new LED streetlights will replace high pressure sodium lamps (HPS) while the company will spend the last two months of 2015 for preparation. Actual replacement will take place in 2016.

“The installation of LED streetlights echoes the plan of GBPC to improve energy efficiency while cutting both carbon emissions as well as fossil fuel consumption,” according to the statement.

Local citizens might notice GBPC team’s preparation work on site to date.
