LEDinside: China's LED Package Market Demand Picks up in May

LEDinside, a division of TrendForce, reports that the global average sales price (ASP) of 40-watt  equivalent LED light bulb stood at US$9.6 in May, translating to a monthly drop of 1.6%. The global ASP of 60-watt equivalent LED light bulbs in same month also fell 1.4% compared with April to US$12.9.

LEDinside analyst Allen Yu said the LED industry was showing signs of rebound in the second quarter. In the chip market, the downtrend came to an end and some product prices even went up. The prices of LED light bulbs also slowed down their decline.

In China’s LED package market, prices of 2835 and 5630 packages for both standard and mid-power segments remained steady. On the other hand, prices of high-power 3030 packages fell noticeably. Rising demand in the high-power segment has led to more suppliers entering the market and thus more competition. Furthermore, the decline in prices of high-power products was sharper compared with the moderate downtrend in the prior period.

Taiwanese LED manufacturer Epistar announced price hike for some chip products at the beginning of May. Though Chinese manufacturers have not followed suit, they are unlikely to lower their prices further for the short term. Hence, Yu pointed out that most  LED package prices stabilized during May.
