IC Driver Manufacturer Macroblock Targets Micro-LED Market

Taiwanese IC driver manufacturer Macroblock has successfully developed LED drivers for small pitch displays, and is eyeing driver solutions for an innovative display technology next year, reported China Times.

Starting from 2017, the company will be focusing on more advanced micro-LED technology to avoid the pitfalls of price wars, while planning to develop driver solutions for large micro-LED displays.

The future outlook for micro-LED display industry is a bright one, and the first micro-LED display on the market might appear as early as 2017 to 2018, said Robert Chen, General Manager of Macroblock.

In the meantime, the company’s IC drivers for small pitch LED displays has seen significant revenue and shipment growth.

Macroblock estimated its IC drivers for LED display applications will grow at least 50%, which would raise shipment volumes by 30%, and raise its revenue by 10% to 12% in 2017.

The company’s revenue started to rebound in second quarter of 2016, and is expected to peak to NT $ 696 million (US $21.76 million) by third quarter of 2016.

The company’s revenue set a new record high even surpassing last year’s annual revenue, as accumulated net profits from the first three-quarters rose 78% to NT $163 million.
