Sharp to Mass Produce Green Laser Diodes in Japan

Sharp has developed green laser diodes, and are running pilot projects of the lasers in its facilities in Mihara, Japan, reported Nikkei.

The company will commence mass production in its plant in Fukushima, but has not set a timeline yet.

The Japanese electronic manufacturer supplied red laser diodes to audio and visual equipment manufacturers, but has not sold blue laser diodes despite possessing related technology.

In addition to green laser lighting products, the company also has developed other RGB lasers and shipping these laser components to projector manufacturers.

Sharp officials noted the company plans to close its LED and laser diode facilities in Mihara, Hiroshima by March of 2018, and transfer smartphone camera component manufacturing to its factory in Fukuyama.
