Samsung Signs MoU with Chinese LED Giant ETi

Chinese LED manufacturer, Elec-Tech International (H.K) Co, Ltd, recently signed a MoU with South Korea’s Samsung Electronics in Shenzhen, China.

The core business area of Elec-Tech is its international lighting business, which includes LED International Business Unit of Elec-Tech International Co., Ltd, lighting factory of its Guangdong subsidiary, lighting factory of Wuhu Elec-tech Optical Electronic Co., Ltd, and ETI Solid State Lighting Inc.

The company sells most of its products, including LED panel lights, downlights, and LED tubes, to North America. In addition, it is also dedicated to developing outdoor lighting products such as LED high bay lighting fixtures.

Elec-Tech's partner, Samsung Electronics, is a global leader in consumer electronics. It has developed LED business since 1995 and has set up production bases in Giheung and Hwaseong, South Korea as well as in Tianjin city, China. Samsung’s LED business owns a complete production chain from substrates, LED components to smart lighting platform, providing an integrated LED lighting solution.

The MoU was signed by Jianrong Chen, Deputy General Manager and Director of ETi and Jacob Tarn, Executive Vice President, LED Lighting Business Team, Samsung Electronics.

“The LED lighting market in 2017 has been extremely volatile. Simply put, it’s dynamic, harsh and irrational, but Samsung has adopted a speedy, precise and proactive approach to assist our customers to overcome any challenges,” Jacob Tarn said.

“Samsung’s LED business has expanded in recent years and facilitated cooperation with several customers. Today we are proud to witness the partnership between Samsung and ETi. We share similar views and values and this MoU will bring our relationship to the next level, which is something we look forward to,” Tam concluded.

During the ceremony, Jianrong Chen said, “I have been working at ETi and Elec-Tech Solid State Lighting for almost 20 years and this is the first time we sign a MoU with our supplier. The main reason is Samsung and ETi share the same goal that is ambitious but achievable.”

“Samsung LED, with its brand strength, supplies products that are highly efficient, dependable and with patent protection, allowing us to access North American market without any problem. In addition, Samsung recently launched its Smart Lighting Platform, which can work with our lighting products to cater to the trend toward smart homes and smart cities. Through this collaboration, I hope we can jointly develop innovative lighting applications, increase product performance, lower operating costs and further expand our global reach,” Chen added.

By signing a MoU, Samsung will be able to leverage ETi’s technology and market share. On the other hand, ETi will benefit from Samsung LED’s brand strength and patent protection. Jointly they can continue to develop innovative LED lighting products and solutions that are in line with global trend.

LEDinside estimates that by collaborating with Chinese LED giant, Samsung will probably play a different but still important role in global LED component market and LED lighting market.
