Osram’s Digital Lumens Seeds MassBike Light Brigade Initiative

Digital Lumens is now an Osram business and Fort Point-based market leader in intelligent LED lighting and sensor-based building smart building applications. The company announced a $1,000 seed donation in support of the MassBike Light Brigade initiative. Throughout October, MassBike will raise funds to purchase lights from Planet Bike, which will be distributed at colleges across the state, as well as in key locations around Boston prior to the end of Daylight Savings Time.

“Biking is an integral part of our DNA at Digital Lumens – not only as a means of transportation, but also for recreational and racing purposes,” said Colin Piepgras, Vice President of Engineering at Digital Lumens. “We are proud to continue to support MassBike and its many rider-focused programs to help grow the Boston biking community and make cycling a safer, more accessible mode of transportation for the residents of the city and its surrounding communities.”

Online fundraising will open to the public on Monday, Oct. 2, 2017, following the Champions' Dinner Kick-Off, a MassBike fund-raising event held Sept. 30, 2017, in conjunction with the KMC Cross Fest in Thompson, Connecticut. Every $10 donation made to the MassBike Light Brigade initiative will provide a set of lights to a rider in need. Lights purchased with the funds raised will be distributed at local colleges including the University of Massachusetts at Lowell, Bunker Hill Community College in Charlestown, Salem State University and Roxbury Community College on Thursday, Nov. 2, 2017, with more locations being added as the distribution date approaches.

"At MassBike we believe lights are perhaps the most important bike safety feature one can have. This is especially true for people riding to and from school, work and errands. This time of year, those utility cyclists too often find themselves in the dark,” said MassBike Executive Director Richard Friese. "With help from Digital Lumens and our supporters, we can provide a thousand points of light for hundreds of low-income residents who ride out of necessity.”

Digital Lumens was recently acquired by Osram, a leading global lighting and technology company with its Americas regional headquarters located in Wilmington, Massachusetts. In joining the Osram family, Digital Lumens will serve Osram’s Boston-based innovation hub, further strengthening and broadening Osram’s portfolio of Internet of Things (IoT) applications for industrial and commercial environments.
