Light + Building 2018: LEDVANCE presents itself as an all-round LED lighting company

We have seen at the trade show major lighting brands announce their determination to transition away from LED lighting companies to software-oriented IoT Solution providers. Companies in the lighting industry admitted their profits have been affected by severe price wars in the market and have tried to develop new business opportunities. However, in comparison, LEDVANCE chooses to not only keep but even expand its focus on general lighting as a globally active, full-scale LED lighting company.

New LEDVANCE CEO Jacob Tarn at the company’s press breakfast on March 19 said that the company aims to become the top LED lighting company in the world that provides a comprehensive lighting portfolio for the entire spectrum of lighting applications.

Tarn aims for the company to anticipate market needs, like in the case of its successful strive into the LED luminaire market, and thus generate momentum in the harsh reality of today’s LED lighting market. He also stressed that the partnership between LEDVANCE and MLS, one of its owners, and the combination of both companies’ strengths will be one of the key advantages for LEDVANCE to realize its ambitious goals.

Erol Kirilmaz, responsible for global sales and marketing and newly appointed member of the LEDVANCE Managing Board effective as of March, told the press that the company will continue to put particular focus on serving its longstanding key customer groups, which are, on the one hand, the electrical wholesalers for professional lighting users and, one the other, retailers including DIY markets for the end consumer business.

Kirilmaz, who brings more than 20 years of sales and marketing experience in high-tech and more than 10 years of experience in the lighting industry with OSRAM and LEDVANCE, added that the company will continue to expand its global reach, particularly in emerging markets like China and India. For its LED luminaires business in particular, Kirilmaz stated that he is optimistic for LEDVANCE to achieve a turnover of more than EUR 300 million in this ongoing financial year. In the past financial year, which ended in September 2017, LEDVANCE achieved an overall turnover of around EUR 1,9 billion with LED luminaires contributing around 10 percent.

LEDinside is convinced that the company’s operation over the past two years has been very successful after a tour around its booth.

LEDVANCE showcased LED luminaires and lamps for basically every application we can think of, whether it is outdoor lighting, emergency lighting, office lighting, retail lighting, industrial lighting, or even the most popular one—smart lighting. For example, the company developed the SMART+ series with a dedicated portfolio for Smart Home systems that use the ZigBee Light Link standard, and one Smart+ product family particularly for Apple HomeKit. The overall Smart+ portfolio includes smart LED bulbs including filament bulbs, flexible LED light strips and a wide array of indoor and outdoor luminaires such as multicolor garden poles, as well as smart devices like for instance intelligent plugs for indoor and outdoor. Those products can connect –with Zigbee-based systems, e.g. from Amazon (Amazon Echo Plus), or Apple HomeKit without the need for an extra hub. Moreover, they can be voice-controlled via Amazon’s “Alexa” or Apple’s “Siri”, enabling users to create personal lighting scenes simply via voice commands.
