Concepts of Micro/Mini LED display are more and more popular. Enterprises' developments in this segment also become focuses of the LED industry.
Leyard, specializing in LED digital display manufacturing, also keeps an eye on the latest trend of technology development in the industry. In January, Leyard announced that it has been following progresses of Mini and Micro LED development made by other companies.
Meanwhile, it has reached out to the upstream companies for collaboration, in order to realize concepts of new-generation displays.
Whether its fine-pitch LED displays will be significantly impacted after Mini and Micro LED are massively used in display production does not seem to bother Leyard.
The company believes in the short term it will not be affected in light of the following three reasons. First, the markets Mini and Micro LED target are different than those its fine-pitch LED displays entered. Mini and Micro LED mostly focus on small-sized consumer electronics. In comparison, fine-pitch LED displays are primarily used to build large-sized display products.
Also, high production costs of Mini and Micro LED applications limit their penetration into the display market.
Lastly, new technology like Micro LED will have to take a long time to replace existing technologies. For example, fine-pitch LED display technology was launched in 2012. However, even at this point, fine-pitch LED has still not fully replaced technologies in the projector segment such as digital light processing technology (DLP) and LCD digital projection technology.
