AUO Expects Volume Production of Mini LED 4K Notebook Panel by the End of 2019

With the feature of local dimming, display adopting Mini LED backlights give a contrast effect similar to that of OLED displays. Many panel manufacturers see Mini LED backlight a strong competitor to OLED technology.

Taiwan-based panel maker AUO has begun mass production of a 32-inch professional panel in 4Q18 and is currently working with its clients on 4K Mini LED notebook panels. The company plans to ship the new products by the end of 2019.

AUO noted that Mini LED technology has been a core development of the company. Starting with niche applications such as gaming and professional displays, AUO aims to deepen the collaboration with supply chain and extend its product portfolio in different sizes and applications.

The company has built up a wide range of products for different applications. At Display Week in May, AUO showcased a 32-inch 4K display implementing 1152 zones Mini LED backlight as well as a VR glasses based on AM driver solution with 2305 zone Mini LED backlight. These samples delivered intensify color contrast with impressive performance.
