Apple Granted a New Micro LED Patent Describing Mixed Structure of LEDs

Patently Apple published a new article noting that Apple was granted another Micro LED related patent by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The patent is titled “Micro LED mixing cups,” describing the integration of different layers in Micro LED.

The mixing cups structure, according to the patent description, includes “a diffuser layer adjacent the LED, an angular filter directly over the diffuser layer and the LED, and an overcoat layer directly over the angular filter and the LED.” These layers are designed to integrate different optical films and materials to enhance light emitting efficiency and quality.

Recently several Micro LED patents of Apple were revealed covering different chip design for folding and curving displays as well as Micro LED display manufacture process for wearable devices.

Since acquiring LuxVue in 2014, when Apple will start to adopt Micro LED technology for its products has been the question for the whole industry and the Apple fans across the world. As the company might shift to Mini LED in the coming year or two, Micro LED based products could be around the corner.
