BOE to Begin Mass Production of Mini LED Backlight and Display Products

Display technology continues to advance and display companies has pushed their development in market expansion and technology improvement. OLED, Mini LED and Micro LED are currently the major technologies that players in the display industry focus on.

BOE, as the leading display company in China, has also invest great amount of resources in OLED and Mini LED.

Lately, BOE replied to its investors about the progress in Mini LED. BOE demonstrated its Mini LED technology at CES 2020. The company is able to provide solutions achieving ultra-thin, high brightness and high dimming zone. The exhibits included a 75-inch 8K Mini LED backlight display which achieves more than 10000 dimming zone to present sophisticated display performance. The display has a brightness of 1500nits and a HDR of over 1 million. In addition, BOE presented a Mini LED display with glass backplane which has a pixel pitch of 1.6mm. The display also adopts blackening solution to enable refined images in dark pictures, addressing details in low brightness.

Lenovo’s Mini LED monitor launched early this year, ThinkVision Creator Extreme, adopted Mini LED product from BOE. The company also plans to debut Mini LED-based notebook with over 1000 dimming zones. BOE aims to mass produce Mini LED backlight display with glass backplane and Mini LED display products in 2H20.

As for its target for flexible AMOLED display, BOE said that the penetration rate of AMOLED display in high-end smartphone increased significantly in 2019. The company’s production capacity will rise to meet the growing demands in the market in 2020.
