FPG-NKFG and Global Mall Co-Establish the Largest UV Air Sterilization Environment in Taiwan for a Better Shopping Experience

The global COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in nearly 2.9 million deaths and over 130 million diagnosed cases as of now. Compared to various countries in the world, Taiwan has merely accumulated more than 1,000 diagnosed cases, and has become one of the few “utopias” in the world that is able to host sports competitions, concerts, large-scale events and banquets.
Citizens in Taiwan are now visiting various hypermarkets, restaurants, and theaters more frequently owing to the relatively controlled status in the country, and the topic regarding a safe and comfortable dining, entertainment, and shopping experience amidst the threat imposed by the virus has become a priority for the public.

NKFG, a joint venture between TPCC and Nikkiso, shoulders the mission of purifying the ambient air, eliminating the threats from bacteria and virus, and protecting the public health. Having been endowed with the essential role in the transformation project and the development of green energy for the Formosa Plastic Group, NKFG aims to develop an eco-friendly UV-C LED that has a longer lifespan, larger power, and sterilizes in a precious manner, before applying it on end products.

The two unrelated fields of oil refinery and pandemic-prevention commodities are predominantly actuated by Wang Wen-chao, standing committee member of the TPG Administrative Center, as well as the driving force of NKFG.

Wang has become the endorser of the UV-C LED sterilization rod by carrying it every day to test and constantly correct its functions, and has tested the mold proofing and indoor air sterilization functions of the UV-C LED Air Disinfector in the office as well as the closet and storage of his home, where he discovered that a prolonged use has eliminated the mold smell and purified the air.

The technology of UV-C LED was invented by 2014 Nobel Physics Prize Winners Professor Akasaki Isamu and Professor Amano Hiroshi, and NKFG has developed a high-tech UV-C LED air sterilization system, as well as works with Kingdom Construction Corp. – Global Mall on establishing the first extensive indoor environment of UV sterilization for air circulation in Taiwan, which provides a safer environment for both consumers and staffs.

Global Mall Zhonghe decided to install UV-C LED at the food court and game area on 3F, which are the most crowded locations of the shopping mall, upon evaluation, and the relevant construction was completed on January 31st 2021.

The areas installed with the UV-C LED air sterilization system indicates a total bacteria count that remains at roughly 200CFU/m3 despite a large quantity of visitors, which is way below the standard of 1500CFU/m3 for indoor air quality announced by the Environmental Protection Administration.
