Compulsory from September 1, 2021: new requirements for energy efficiency, product information, etc.

The new EU regulations on ecodesign and energy labeling which entered into force in December 2019 will become compulsory from September 1, 2021. From this time onwards, all light sources and separate control gear must comply with these new ecodesign requirements. This means that light sources must fulfill stricter minimum requirements with regard to energy efficiency as well as certain quality criteria. For the very first time, the new regulations prescribe efficiency requirements for LED control gear. Also important: the new verification tolerances. The regulation on the energy labeling of light sources defines new (rescaled) energy efficiency classes (A to G) and requires registration in the EU Product Database for Energy Labeling (EPREL) – even for light sources which are placed on the EU market only. In future, luminaires will no longer bear an energy label. However, it must be ensured that light sources and control gear can be removed non-destructively. The new regulations do not apply to sensors and control units.
