Universal Digital-Life Expo 2021 (hereinafter “UDE2021”) was held at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre between July 30 and August 1. Themed as “Love Your Life, Explore the Future”, the event demonstrated how the future will look like to its visitors.
Exhibitors Present Novel Display Products and Solutions to Let Visitors Feast Their Eyes on Breathtaking Scenes
UDE2021 witnessed a “world war of display technologies” such as QLED, Mini/Micro
LED, OLED, and laser displays.
During the exhibition, Samsung presented its Neo QLED TV, Lifestyle TV, and Odyssey G9 monitor. The 4K Mini LED TVs are run by the next-gen Neo Quantum Dot processor, which facilitates better screen luminance control of novel quantum dot Mini LED backlights. Odyssey G9 comprises a self-developed 49-inch Quantum Mini LED panel with 2K resolution and a 240Hz refresh rate.
LG Display unveiled an 83-inch OLED TV and transparent OLED TV. As LG’s flagship product, the transparent OLED TV features 38% transparency and has been widely applied to commercial scenarios such as shopping mall windows and meeting room background walls.
Skyworth exhibited various advanced technologies and products such as its high-end OLED products, 8K ultra-high-resolution TV, and 5G+8K solutions. Particularly, the first-ever glass sound 8K 120Hz OLED TV, W92, comes with an 8K 120Hz OLED self-luminous panel, two independent built-in 8K 120Hz MEMC chips, and Skyworth’s 8K AI picture quality engine. With the said features, the OLED TV is able to present rich colors, depth, and details.
BOE Jingxin is a wholly owned subsidiary of BOE; the company specializes in designing, producing, and offering Mini/Micro LED displays and solutions. At the UDE2021 exhibition, BOE Jingxin showcased numerous Mini/Micro LED products, demonstrating the company’s excellent technologies related to semiconductor display, high-efficiency transfer printing, LED display driving, and LED backlighting.

Tianma displayed series of novel vehicle mounted, medical, and industrial control technologies and products, including a flexible and bendable OLED display, transparent Micro LED display with ultra-narrow bezel, and a double-blind-via LCD.
Leyard brought various cutting-edge Micro LED series for visitors, including a Micro LED consumer TV, virtual cinema, all-in-one meeting room display, fine-pitch Micro LED series, virtual movie backgrounds, and transparent displays. Specifically, Leyard’s subsidiary Planar launched a line of large Micro LED TVs for homes, which are equipped with the firm’s novel Micro LED chips and patented driver ICs. Engineered with genuine self-luminous technology, the product line boasts high brightness, sharp picture quality, and excellent energy efficiency.
Absen showcased its five-year R&D result: the Clear Cobalt series featuring innovative Micro LED display products. Based on Absen’s patented HCCI technology, the design of full flip chips incorporated with unique package allows the series to achieve high luminous efficacy and preserve cool temperatures through excellent heat dissipation. Its unique packaging structure and material plus special board array computation also enable Clear Cobalt to achieve high ambient light contrast and a ultra-black surface coating effect.
Xianxin Technology presented a Mini LED-backlit IC composed of a dimmer and Dcon. The AM IC can achieve precise control of time sequence, enhance the luminous efficacy of Mini LEDs, and meticulously control densely arranged LEDs in specific areas. Xianxin’s IC also features innovative structural design, in which board connection is simplified to help reduce splicing frequency.
NovaStar presented its flagship xR solution . The nearly 100-m2 LED panel for virtual production is powered by the company’s VMP, MX40 Pro, and A10s Pro. Regarding XR display application, the solution can accurately present original colors, retain image details, as well as solve scan line and black background problems by using high frame rate, phase adjustment, and frequency multiplier technologies. Therefore, the solution can further improve picture quality, enabling the LED screen to present lifelike scenes.

Kinglight displayed a new Mini LED-backlit product. Based on the Mini POB solution featuring fine-pitch CHIP backlighting components, the product is relatively cost competitive. This flat-packaging Mini LED product boasts a wide viewing angle (>160°), high brightness, mature packaging technology, a long lifespan, high reliability, and a good CP value. The product can also be adapted to applications of different optical distance and pitch settings.

Additionally, Leshi Zhixin, Xiaomi, and Huawei unveiled their Mini LED TVs at UDE2021.
Top laser display companies in China, including Hisense, Changhong, Casiris, JMGO, and Formovie presented their laser display product lines on-site.

With its whole-new next-gen AI home, AI community, and AI city solutions, Hisense aims to create a “city with a smart and new life”. Focusing on human experiences, these solutions—targeting different business operations and scenarios—comprise Hisense’s U7 TV, laser TVs, rotary touch video walls, gaming monitors, surveillance cameras, all-in-one AR machines, and smart blackboards. The display manufacturer has thus improved smart home, smart community, and smart city technologies.

UDE2021 also features an XR special zone where ten XR enterprises showcased their innovations; these XR players were Haier Institute of Industrial Intelligence, Haizhu Intelligence, Ximmerse, One Vision, Nibiru, Pico, Wasee, Pimax, Empower Intelligent Technology, and Motion Magic. While having a try on the immersive XR products available on-site, visitors could effortlessly explore the world without leaving their houses.
Big data, Internet, 5G, AI, and cloud computing technologies have risen in recent years and have been applied to scenarios such as smart traffic, smart home, smart community, and smart hospital.
